Problem Gambling News March 2025

March means many different things to many different Americans. For some, it’s all about spring break, while others eagerly anticipate the arrival of St. Patrick’s Day festivities in their city or town. Of course, for tens of millions of Americans the month denotes the most popular sports betting tournament in the nation; NCAA March Madness. And while the vast majority are able to participate responsibly, millions of vulnerable individuals have a complex relationship with gambling. This leads us to the most notable association for March – it’s Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM). Logically, this fact has influenced our monthly problem gambling newsletter. Further, as the country’s leading provider of virtual support services for the treatment of disordered gambling, you will find that Kindbridge is notably present in each of the news updates detailed below. March 2025 News Regarding Problematic Gambling / Sports Betting that America Needs to Know About

What’s on Deck for Problem Gambling Awareness Month 2025?

Problem Gambling News March 2025

Problem Gambling Awareness Month (PGAM) was initiated by the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) more than two decades ago (2003). It implores individuals to acknowledge when casino gaming and/or sports betting becomes disruptive and/or damaging to themselves and those in their familial, social, and professional circles. The annual campaign also seeks to increase public awareness of problem gambling and the availability of prevention, treatment and recovery services. Each year carries a distinct theme. According per the NCPG, this year’s is as follows:

“The 2025 Problem Gambling Awareness Month theme, ‘Seeking Understanding,’ focuses on increasing awareness of problem gambling as a serious but often misunderstood mental health condition. By fostering a deeper understanding of the issue, we can encourage empathy, reduce barriers to treatment, and provide support to those affected by gambling-related harm.”

Kindbridge has been and remains to be at the forefront of the mission detailed by the NCPG above. But what we have noticed already this year, is that the reach of PGAM has grown wider than ever. Stakeholders across nearly all U.S. states have launched campaigns to connect to vulnerable persons in their respective populations. For example, New York State Governor Kathy Hochul has officially proclaimed March 2025 as Problem Gambling Awareness Month, and has illuminated more than a dozen landmarks across the state in yellow (PGAM’s color) to spread awareness. We encourage residents to perform an online search for PGAM “events” in their respective communities. Meanwhile, responsible operator MGM Resorts + BetMGM has just announced an expansion of their existing partnership with Kindbridge to provide critical resources, advance research efforts, and strengthen industry-wide initiatives to better support individuals affected by problematic gambling behavior.

Kindbridge Launches Gambling Disorder Screening Day Kit

As a part of PGAM, the second Tuesday of every March is designated as Gambling Disorder Screening Day. As the name indicates, the day of recognition encourages people to get screened for gambling disorders when they suspect that there may be an issue (view signs here). To make screening for gambling disorder more accessible to the American public, Kindbridge has developed a FREE Gambling Disorder Screening Day assessment which you can access by clicking/tapping the link below:

Kindbridge Launches State Specific Problem Gambling Treatment Portals

To coincide with the arrival of PGAM 2025, Kindbridge has started publishing U.S. state specific problem gambling resource portals for residents of each respective region. While we have always been available to assist the entire U.S. population in the treatment of disordered gambling and cooccurring mental/behavioral health concerns, we find it important to connect to individuals and households on their own playing field, so to speak. Within each state’s resource portal is a summary of legalities regarding casino gaming, sports betting, and other gambling outlets (racing, lottery, et cetera), statistics regarding the problem crisis in their area, and most importantly – direct access to virtual support services (by phone and online) so that they can get help at a time and place that is most convenient to them. This list of portals will be completed by the end of PGAM, but you can reference the growing catalog below.

*Please check back weekly through March as we complete all states by the conclusion of PGAM 2025.
