Here on Kindbridge’s public resource portal (this blog) we do a deep dive to provide readers with tips to navigating life with specific behavioral health disorders. Our guides are research-driven, science-based, supported by client outcome reports, and insightful to the public, organizations, governmental bodies, and the media. We take great pride in being available to answer the multitude of questions being typed into the digital devices of millions of Americans. Sometimes these queries are deeply nuanced and require careful consideration. Sometimes they are straightforward and practical, although no less important. Today’s user-submitted question falls under that latter category. Before we answer it, we want to applaud you for taking the first step towards greater mental health and wellness! Now let’s proceed with the key steps and what you need to know.
How to Book a Therapist Appointment and What to Know (and have prepared) Before You Do
STEP 1: Confirm Virtual Therapy
Given that you’re searching for information on how to book a therapist appointment, it’s safe to assume that you’re not yet sure if you want to partake in therapy at a physical clinic or virtually from wherever you prefer. It’s important to identify the added benefits (beyond effectiveness) of virtual therapy, which include the following:
- Online and telehealth therapy can be done from anywhere you may be. You can even talk to your therapist while you’re away on vacation.
- Online and telehealth therapy offers far superior flexibility in scheduling sessions at your convenience (not the therapist’s convenience).
- Online and telehealth therapy takes up less of your time for an equally scheduled session (i.e. 60-minutes). There is no time lost driving to a clinic, finding parking, sitting in a waiting room, and all that comes with visiting a physical facility.
- Online and telehealth therapy sessions offer greater anonymity and confidentiality (view more).
- Virtual therapy platforms such as Kindbridge offer greater access to issue/disorder specialists when compared to physical clinics that are limited by general practitioners (more on this below).
On-premises can absolutely be as beneficial as virtual therapy when it comes to outcome success. If you were searching for information on how to book an appointment at a physical clinic there is no need to pivot from this goal. That being said, we do recommend supplementing this plan with virtual therapy for a more holistic approach to mental wellness.
STEP 2: Book a Therapist Based on Concern
Another big benefit of booking online therapy (namely through Kindbridge) is that you can choose from a list of therapists for specific issues you may be experiencing. In doing so you avoid any discomfort that you may feel when informing an initial gatekeeper about an issue (i.e. sex addiction, etc.).
Of course, you’re not required to know or label exactly what your struggle may be. For a lack of better words, you may feel trapped in your life and desperately need guidance to escape. Or, you may frequently wake up at 3AM with pangs of anxiety and don’t know what to do. In either case you don’t need to select a specialist from the get-go. For instance, on the Kindbridge booking page we provide a general “Mental Health Services” option for new clients to select:
STEP 3: Confirm Account…and Get Direct Billing!?
Once you’ve booked your therapist appointment with Kindbridge, you will be sent a confirmation email and walked through standard (to the industry) account profile set up. It will take a few minutes, but once your profile is complete future bookings will be a quick and seamless experience.
When creating your account you will also be prompted to provide information on your insurance coverage (as applicable). That’s right, there’s a good chance that a significant portion of your therapy will be eligible for direct billing if you are covered by any of the providers shown below. If you want to find out what your coverage looks like before booking your appointment, give us a call right now at +1 (877) 426-4258.
