Southern Ute Division of Gaming Expands Access to Responsible Gaming Information and Support

The Southern Ute Division of Gaming is expanding access to responsible gaming information and support by adding new resources to its website, including a brief screening tool and connections to specialized behavioral health services.

The Responsible Gaming section provides visitors with the Brief Biosocial Gambling Screen (BBGS), a three-question screening tool designed to help identify when someone may benefit from further assessment for gambling-related concerns. The page also connects individuals and families with resources for additional support, including Kindbridge Behavioral Health.

The addition reflects a broader commitment to making responsible gaming information accessible and helping people understand where they can turn when questions or concerns about gambling arise.

Recognizing changes in gambling behavior is not always straightforward. Concerns can develop gradually and may first appear as financial stress, changes in relationships, difficulty sleeping, increased anxiety, or attempts to hide the extent of someone’s gambling.

Screening tools like the BBGS can offer a starting point for reflection. The three questions ask individuals to consider whether, during the past 12 months, they have experienced restlessness, irritability, or anxiety when attempting to reduce or stop gambling; concealed the extent of their gambling from family or friends; or experienced financial difficulties related to gambling that required assistance with living expenses.

The BBGS is a screening tool, not a diagnosis. Answering “yes” to one or more questions suggests that speaking with a qualified professional for further assessment may be helpful.

Creating Clearer Pathways to Support

As access to gambling continues to evolve, making clear and trustworthy information available can help individuals and families better understand potential warning signs and the support options available to them.

According to the National Council on Problem Gambling, approximately 2.5 million U.S. adults are estimated to meet criteria for a severe gambling problem in a given year, while an additional 5 to 8 million experience mild or moderate gambling problems.

Behind these numbers are people navigating experiences that can affect financial stability, relationships, emotional well-being, and daily life. Earlier access to information and support can give individuals and families more opportunities to understand what they are experiencing and consider their next steps.

Supporting Colorado Communities

Kindbridge Behavioral Health is grateful to be included among the support resources available through the Southern Ute Division of Gaming’s Responsible Gaming webpage.

For individuals concerned about their gambling—or family members who are unsure how to support someone they care about—speaking with a professional can provide an opportunity to better understand what is happening and explore possible next steps.

Kindbridge provides specialized behavioral health services for gambling-related concerns, including individual, couples, and family therapy, as well as peer support and coaching. Learn more about gambling therapy services.

There is no single experience or circumstance that determines when someone should reach out. Some people seek support because gambling is affecting their finances or relationships. Others notice changes in their mood, sleep, stress levels, or ability to focus. Family members may also seek guidance when they are concerned about someone they love.

Whatever brings someone to the conversation, support can begin with listening, understanding their circumstances, and identifying options that reflect their individual needs and goals.
